Being Disciples Liturgy 3: Forgiveness

Give us this day our daily bread
Help us to receive our own humanity as a gift
We ask for openness and gratefulness
for whoever and whatever awakens us to our dignity

Forgive us our sins
As we forgive those who sin against us
May we approach one another with our hands open
And let go of the ways we defend ourselves

We renounce the privilege of being right or safe
We are hungry for healing
For the bread of acceptance and restoration to relationship

We renounce the safety of being the offended victim
And take the risk of creating afresh a relationship

Your nature is to forgive
May we share in your nature

Give us today the bread of tomorrow
Your kingdom come
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven

May we be a new community of the Spirit
In which forgiveness is the common currency
Amen
